AN EXPEDITION INTO THE UNKNOWN
Following the footsteps of explorers, astronauts, and the guardians of the Amazon.
This is not a vacation. This is a 10-day descent into the mysteries that have captivated humanity for decades. We are taking you from the volcanic fire of the Sangay National Park to the legendary depths of the Cuve of Tayos a place so enigmatic that even Neil Armstrong traveled to the heart of the Ecuadorian jungle to witness its secrets.
Phase I: The Fortress of Fire (Sangay National Park)
The Andean Gateway:
We begin in Quito, moving south toward the high-altitude lagoons of Atillo. Here, the air is thin, and the landscape is dominated by the restless spirit of the Sangay Volcano.
The Silent Trek:
Navigate the paramo, a land of black water and golden grass, where we camp under the shadow of one of the world's most active volcanoes.
Phase II: The Transition (Into the Amazonian Basin)
The Cloud Forest Descent:
We leave the highlands behind, winding down through the mountains to the jungle outpost of Macas.
The Shuar Connection:
Prepare for the underworld alongside the Shuar people, the ancestral protectors of the Tayos Cave. This is where the legend begins.
Phase III: The Underworld (Cueva de los Tayos)
The Great Descent:
A 70-meter (230 ft) rappel into the mouth of the earth. You will leave the light of the sun behind to enter a subterranean cathedral of stone.
The Megalithic Mystery:
Spend three days living underground. Explore massive galleries and "man-made" appearing stone structures that have baffled archaeologists and treasure hunters for a century.
The Subterranean Camp:
Fall asleep to the sound of the Tayos birds in a world where time ceases to exist.
Phase IV: The Return to the Surface
The Jungle Recovery:
Emerge from the depths for a final celebration of life in the Amazon before our return journey to Quito. You will return home, but a part of you will always remain in the silence of the cave.
